i am of the "born into it but got out of it before baptism class"......listening to so many of the horror stories on this site, i often feel like we are the 'lucky ones'..... we realized at a very young age how wrong and absurd this belief system was and ran away before making the psychological investment of baptism while simultaneously avoided the disastrous consequences of getting df'd......are we the minority here???

It really isn't boring. When I think back to being in the dubs I remember seeing kids who must have been going through what you were going through. How terrible it must be not be able to confide in anyone. There is probably some young jw reading what you said thinking that is how I feel.

we were unable to generate any interest the first go-around with the wts threatening quotes, and now it seems the mainstream media is for the most part ignoring us again.. i have also sent out numerous releases and letters to local media outlets (newspaper, tv, etc.
) prior to a number of district conventions, and never got any kind of response nor did i ever see anything anything printed or broadcast except the "fluff" pieces they do about the convention, baptism, drama, blah, blah.
after reading several local articles, from several different cities, reciting how much $$$$ the conventions bring to each city, i have a feeling that, at least these cases regarding the dc's, the media doesn't want to go after a large contributor to the local economy.. but, what about this case, the lawsuit against quotes?
I agree with the above posts. The WT is peanuts. They are only important in their own eyes. I think on some level the WT realizes this. They wouldn't have brought forth the suit if they thought it would be on every news channel. The WT really fears the internet but I don't think they know what to do about it. I think they testing the waters here to see what results they get with this type of law suit. They probably know they don't have much of a case but if they can silence some of smaller website with fear of the expences of going to court against a huge corporation they will have some success. If they can conduct this type of attack without any negative press they will probably go after other websites . Particularly the ones they feel won't be able to raise the funds to fight them. They have all the money in the world for this sort of game.
It is very important to try to get someone to take notice and also offer finacial support if needed.

Once when I was a teenager my friend and I picked up a couple of girls hitchhiking (back when people hitchhiked). I was just getting into the JW thing. I mentioned to them that I was studing with the Witnesses (great pick-up line). One of them told me she was raised as a Jehovah's Witnesses and her father was an elder but she had never got baptised. I began telling her how wonderful the Watchtower was (I was being love bombed at the time). She told me she had see a lot of horrible things go on at the hall and said there were a lot of hypocrites there. She told me that they were just like any other religion and that she would never go back. I was shocked at her attitude. Before meeting her I had never seen anyone who was associated with the Witnesses ever do anything but grin at me and tell me how wonderful it was to be in Jehovah's organization. She tried to warn me not to get involved. Too bad I didn't listen.

JWs say they want to be no part of the world. The outfit Kwin posted is no part of any world I want to attend. I think it is a good choice not only for Richie but as a uniform for the new and improved Watchtower Society in general. It would distiguish them from "worldlings".

Now that I am fading.. i haven't had nightmares that were so scary anymore. Does that mean god isn't with me since the demons aren't scaring me anymore?? Ya know.. cause they only torment you to get you away from god and all....(so the meetings tell you)
They are part of the package deal you get when you accept the WT teachings. When you stop believing the Watchtower is the truth the creatures they manufactured leave with all the other crap they made up to keep you in line. To put it bluntly I think the WT was driving you crazy. Who knows where you would have wound up if you continued to put your faith in them.

think a better question is: Can a JW read the Bible through without the WT publications?
No, from the beginning to present day the WT position has always been if you read the Bible by itself you will fall away from their teaching. In other word by itself it is a very dangerous book. Russell said if you read the Bible without his books, Studies in the Scriptures you would fall into darkness. This was reitterated in they early 80s when they said something like: witness have been reported reading the Bible by itself without the aid of WT publications. Strangely they are going back to the doctrines of Christendom. You won't come up with their teachings by reading the Bible.

I highly recommend it. It has four or five version on it. You can view two versions at once. It also has a dictionary and Strongs on it and lot of other things. I like the New LIving Bible and the New King James. I might add an NIV. I wouldn't put a NWT on it even if it was available which it isn't. The WT lags far behind in what is available for Biblical research. Any Christian bookstore has 1000 times the resources the WT has. Of course JWs wouldn't know that as the boys who run the tower won't let them have a peek. And where do you think they get their info anyway. They steal it, pervert it, print it. As for the reference to Jehovah's organization. I hope your justa funnin us. You really don't believe this do you? Jehovah is not really the God of the Bibles name. It is a hybrid name. One reason as to why it is wrong I have seen pointed out is the hovah part. Let see what Strongs on my Pocket PC has to say about hovah: hovah = ruin, mischief. Not a very good name for God but perhaps a great name for the god of the Watchtower. Cruzanhart made and execellent point a about what is presently accepted as the Bible by religious goups including the JWs. Blame it on the Chatholics. We owe what we have today to them. So if you accept the Bible as the word of God remember what your reading was put together by the Catholic Church. Be sure to thank them. And do it a little more politely than the WT does. Cygnus mentioned the Toa of Pooh as a good read. I think it was a great little book also. I also agree with anewme. You can read the Bible too much and become a little odd.
